On the weekend of June 20-21, Sister Linda Neil, CSJ will speak at all the Masses at St. Leo on behalf of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet that work among the poor in Peru.
In Peru, almost daily, people come to the sisters to ask for help. Some come to ask for food because they have nothing to eat; others come to ask for help to pay for their bus fare for medical appointments. Many Peruvians do not own cars and rely on public transportation. Others come who can’t afford to get their medicines.
Many of the children that come to the After-School Homework Program in Canto Chico do not have school supplies because their parents can’t afford to buy them.
With donations that come from parishioners in the United States, the Sisters of St. Joseph are able to provide the help for those in need.
However, the needs of the poor far outweigh the funds that are available to the sisters. Your prayers are requested for the Sisters of St. Joseph and for the people in Peru. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated in the collection that will take place at the Masses on June 20-21.
For 375 years (1650), the Sisters of St. Joseph have been risk takers, responding to the needs of the times. Today, we live the legacy of the courageous and faithful women in our history whose
Spirit-led vision continues to call us to serve the dear neighbor without distinction.
Our sisters have served their beloved neighbors in South America since 1962, starting in a hospital and schools, and later going wherever the people needed them most. Currently, the sisters operate a school and provide counseling services, pastoral care in various areas, and a prayer ministry in the city of Tacna and at three locations in Lima: Canto Chico, Carapongo, and Jesús María.
